Filename: Kids personal safety check list

  • Stranger danger does not have to be scary. You should never be afraid of strangers but you should be aware of the check list below to protect your self from stranger danger:
  • Strangers can look like anyone else. Like your neighbour or like the person at the supermarket. Not all strangers are bad, but even the strangers that are mean won't look like monsters. That's why we need to be careful with EVERYONE.
  • Never leave school with someone you don't know. If someone tells you there has been an emergency, you should always check first with a trusted adult, parent or teacher.
  • If an adult approaches you for help or directions, then be reminded that grown-ups should not be asking children for help!
  • If a stranger bothers you or follows you, then get away as quickly as you can. If you are followed by a car, then you should turn around and go the other way. You should always tell your parents about what happened.
  • If a stranger follows you or grabs for you, yell loud and make as much noise as you can.
  • If anyone touches you in a bad way, say "NO!"
  • Animals and candy are two of the most common lure tactics predators use. Never talk to strangers that offers either of these things.
  • Do not have you name printed on anything visible to strangers, such as the outside of your clothing, jackets, backpack, shoes, hats. as a predator that sees a your name and uses it, might instinctively make you trust them.
  • You should always tell your parents where you are, and when you will return. If you change you plans, then let your parents know.
  • If you get lost, don't continue travelling but ask an official person (e.g. Police) or a shop keeper or a grand mama alike person to help you out.
  • Never tell anyone on the phone you are home alone.
  • Ask your parents discuss safety or to make role play with your so you get a good feel for what is and isn't safe behaviour.
